The year behind, the year ahead (3rd of December, 2024)

To kick things off, I (Wayne), have been at Liverpool now for almost a year, and at this time of year, I like to reflect back on what I’ve achieved, what went well, and what could be better in the next year (which starts in just a few weeks…).

It took me a while to get settled in, with moving home, and getting used to the way a different university ‘does things’, but on the whole I’m happy and settled. While I feel like I haven’t achieved much, I’ve come to realise that moving institution mid-career is a big deal, and that I’ve needed time and space to think about what I’ve done and what I want to do next. I’m happy that we’ve been joined by two new PhD students in the first year (Rain and Julia), and I’m also happy that I have a polytunnel for plants (picture to come soon)!

Now I’m settled, I look forward to a new year of writing, and preparing for our new Masters programme in Global Change Ecology and Evolution, which we start teaching in October 2025!
